How the FRB Automatic Centering Device Works
The FRB Automatic Centering Device enables the centering of the ends of both round and polygonal bars quickly and extremely efficiently. The system allows a centering operation to be completed on average every 10–15 seconds, significantly speeding up the production process.
The device can be installed on a standard pillar drill or radial drilling machine equipped with a Morse Taper No. 2 (MT2) and provides a centering accuracy of 0.10 mm.
Its operating principle is based on two axially sliding components:
- The central spindle;
- The hollow bushing.
During operation, the hollow bushing rests on the diameter of the workpiece to be centered, while the spindle, connected to the drill spindle, continues its stroke and performs the center drilling operation. This system ensures accurate centering in a short time and with great ease of use.

Recommendations for Optimal Use
To achieve the best performance, FRB recommends machining a small flat on the outer diameter of the center drill before installation. This simple precaution improves clamping and prevents the center drill from rotating.
Furthermore, to ensure the correct axial positioning of the center drill, the rear adjustment screw can be accessed through the hole provided in the drill-holder bushing. Then position the dedicated Centering Shaft to align the base with the center drill.
